Hamburg / Copenhagen, October 30th – German developer CIC and Danish trading company Twig have announced a strategic partnership to construct and operate a 85 MWh battery storage system in central Zealand, Denmark.
This milestone project marks CIC’s entry into the Danish BESS market and represents Twig’s largest project as an asset owner to date.
Following CIC’s acquisition of the project SPV, Twig joined as a 25% shareholder, establishing a strong foundation to successfully bring the project to market and optimize operations. The partnership brings together complementary expertise across the project’s value chain: CIC contributes deep expertise in developing, constructing and operating renewable energy assets across several European countries, while Twig leverages its strong capabilities in energy trading and revenue optimization.
“Entering the Danish BESS market with such a competent and trusted partner is an important milestone for us,” said Lena Schleyer, managing director in CIC. “Our combined expertise allows us to smoothly bring the project into operations and to ensure it operates at its full commercial potential.”
“This project marks a new chapter for us,” said Casper Kaae Sønderby, co-founder of Twig. “We have built a strong reputation as one of Denmark’s leading energy traders, and taking further steps into asset ownership and operation is a natural next step in our growth journey.”
Hans Jørn Rieks, founding partner of CIC adds: “From the outset, the collaboration with Twig has been constructive, pragmatic, solution-oriented and characterized by the enthusiasm for this industry that both companies share. We are convinced this marks the start of a close collaboration.”
The 25MW stand-alone battery system will support Denmark’s further energy transition by providing grid flexibility, enhancing renewable integration and contributing to grid stability. Construction is expected to start soon with commissioning targeted for end 2026.
